Page of Wands Tarot Card Meaning

Page of Wands tarot card symbolism

In the Waite–Smith deck, the Page of Wands is a young figure standing in barren, desert-like country, with three pyramid-shaped hills rising behind. Holding a tall staff upright, the Page looks with curiosity at the leaves sprouting from its tip, as if trying to work out what this bud will become. The yellow tunic is patterned with salamanders; in alchemical tradition the salamander is the creature that can live in fire. Their circle is not yet closed, just as the Page is only at the start of their growth. A red feather on the cap flickers like a flame. In the Golden Dawn tradition this card is the Princess: "Princess of the Shining Flame, Rose of the Palace of Fire."

Page of Wands upright meaning

Upright, the Page of Wands represents the first spark of a new idea, curiosity or passion. There is no grand plan yet, but something has begun to excite you: a new hobby, a course, the idea of a trip or a creative project. As an attitude, it recommends openness to learning, bold experiments and the readiness to say "let's see." Pages are traditionally bearers of news, so an exciting message, an invitation or an inspiring offer may be on its way.

As a person, the Page of Wands describes someone energetic, outspoken, eager to explore and young in spirit. This may be a child, a student, a new intern or someone of any age opening a fresh chapter of life. They ask questions, volunteer first and do not hide it when they get bored. They bring life into any room, though their experience has not yet caught up with their enthusiasm.

Page of Wands reversed meaning

The reversed Page of Wands can show enthusiasm fading quickly, projects started and abandoned, and scattered energy. An idea is floated but nothing follows; the notebook fills up with the first pages of new plans. Sometimes the opposite happens: a critical remark lands before you have even begun, and the spark goes out before it can catch.

As a person, it may describe someone impatient, easily bored or prone to exaggerated behavior to attract attention. Where news is concerned, it can point to a message that is delayed or a planned beginning that gets postponed.

Page of Wands in love and relationships

In love, the Page of Wands describes the sweet thrill of flirtation, playfulness and attraction that develops spontaneously. Someone you have just met may make you laugh and pique your curiosity; an unexpected, daring message is a typical herald of this card. In an existing relationship, a spontaneous date or a new experience tried together, such as a first trip to a city neither of you knows, can bring fresh life.

The card also reminds you that time will show whether this excitement lasts; the first spark needs effort to deepen. Reversed, it may point to interest that starts hot and cools quickly, or to someone whose replies to your messages are inconsistent.

Page of Wands in work and money

At work, this card symbolizes exploring a new field and doing the first research into an internship, training or a career change. It is the seed stage of an entrepreneurial idea: a weekend workshop, a first conversation with a potential client or the rough draft of a side project. Energy is high and experience still limited, so being open to learning and to advice matters. Where money is concerned, keeping enthusiastic gear purchases and "this course will change everything" spending in proportion helps you avoid the card's shadow.

Page of Wands: astrology and element

The Golden Dawn explains the court cards through the blending of elements. The Page of Wands is "Earth of Fire": the inspiration carried by Fire meets Earth's power to make things concrete. That is why the card is the energy that tries, for the first time, to turn an idea into something tangible. The Golden Dawn Princesses are not given zodiac degrees; each rules a quadrant of the heavens around the north pole of the ecliptic and is considered the "throne" of her suit's Ace. The Fire Princess's quadrant is traditionally the region above Cancer, Leo and Virgo. The Earth sub-element carries the potential to give this fiery youth staying power; a bud becomes a branch only if it takes root.
