Sun in the 7th House: Finding Oneself in Another's Mirror
Sun in the 7th house builds identity through partnership and marriage. What they seek in a spouse, strong partners, fitting careers, and the 1st–7th axis.
Someone with the Sun in the 7th house comes to know themselves best face to face with another person; marriage and partnership move to the centre of their identity. The 7th house begins at the Descendant (DC) and describes the other: spouse, business partner, contractual relationships, even open rivals. It is angular, so what happens here has large, visible consequences, and the Sun turns its light toward the person opposite.
Sun in the 7th house: what does it mean for marriage?
Someone with this placement can struggle to decide alone, yet becomes clear once they think things through with a partner. Partnerships, consulting, mediation, law, diplomacy, one-to-one therapy or coaching, any field built on working directly with another person, suit them. Relationship isn't a side topic for them but one of the centres of life.
Here the Sun has just set: at the moment of birth it has dropped below the western horizon. Symbolically, the light of identity is directed toward someone else. These people are often drawn to strong, distinct, even dominant partners. Sometimes they project their own brilliance onto a spouse and see themselves in that person's success.
Moments that make a relationship official, a wedding, an engagement, the day a partnership agreement is signed, become turning points. Stepping into a relationship feels like stepping into a new identity, which is why they take the choice seriously and weigh a partner carefully.
Handing the light to someone else
The shadow is an identity too tied to the relationship. Alone, the person may not quite know who they are; a separation can be lived not only as loss but as an identity crisis. At the other extreme there can be constant competition, racing a partner's light. The strength they see in the other may really be strength they haven't claimed as their own.
The other end of the axis
The opposite angle is the 1st house: self and body. Maturity for a 7th-house Sun means staying oneself within the relationship. Making their own decisions, protecting their own interests, entering a relationship to share rather than to be completed: that is the direction of growth.
With the Sun in Libra, its sign of fall, the habit of postponing one's own wishes to keep the peace is stronger. In Aries or Leo, relationships can be more passionate and combative, and the lesson is equality.
